Term 2 - 24th July 2017

Dear Parents/Caregivers,
We hope you all have had great holiday and managed to stay dry for the past week.  We are all really looking forward to another exciting term in Te Kete Kākano. We would like to welcome our new teacher Miss Melanie Herron to our Studio. We are also lucky to have Miss Talbot, a student teacher, joining us for 5 weeks.
The layout of the studio is a little different than last term. At the beginning of the school day the children will assemble on the mat area with their whānau teacher. For most children, these areas are the same as they were last term except the children that were in the Basket at the end of last term will begin the day in the other break out space called ‘The Seedlings’ and all new learners  will continue to start in the Basket. The studio routines will continue to be the same as they were last term:
8:55am - 9:10am - Roll, Calendar and Oral Language
9:10am - 9:55am - Written Language
9:55am - 10.10am - Feed and Read
10:10am - 11am - Reading
11am -11:30am - Morning Tea
11:30am - 11:45am - Phonics
11:45am - 12:40pm - Mathematics
12:40pm - 1:30pm - Lunch
1:30pm - 2pm - Roll and Handwriting
2pm - Other Curriculum Areas (Health, PE, Drama, Art, Library etc.)
Curriculum Focuses for the Term:
  • Literacy- Reading and Writing
  • Maths - Number Knowledge and Strategy along with Statistics
  • Drama - Fairytales
  • PE- Gymnastics and Athletics
  • Te Reo/Maori- Marae and Basic Commands
  • Problem Based Learning- Social Science- Healthy Communities and Environment
  • Visual Art - Drawing and Line
Other Information
Our library day will continue to be Wednesday afternoons. Your child is welcome to borrow one book each week.  There is a yellow container in the studio to return the books to.
Whole school assembly will be every second Friday at 9.05am in the gym (starting the first week). We will also be having two junior learning celebrations during the term. The dates are to be confirmed.
We are going to continue baking every second Friday. If you have anything that you would like to bake with us please let us know.
During the term, the children will be participating in indoor bowls, athletics, dog safety and a specialist cricket session. So, lots of exciting things happening.
